About Me: Bio

Colin Grice is a Midwestern born Costume Designer and Wig/Hair and Makeup Designer. He earned his BA from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater in Theatre and English Literature, where he studied both costume and hair & makeup design. He recently received his MFA in Costume Design from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he worked as the Hair and Makeup Coordinator for the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. His academic contributions include his thesis work on the understanding of cultural appropriation of hairstyles throughout history and the understanding of how these issues are still prevalent in the beauty industry. Most recently, Colin worked as the Wig Supervisor for the Texas Shakespeare Festival, where his work can be seen in The Music Man, The Tempest, Taming of the Shrew, and Nell Gwynn. He's also worked as the Hair and Makeup Artist/Key for the indie film, One Woman Show.  Colin's work can also be seen at  Sarasota Opera Houses 2024 season, where he served as the Assistant Hair and Makeup Designer for Carmen, Lucia di Lammermoor, Luisa Miller, and L'infedeltà delusa, as well as The Old Globe's 2024 Season. 
Colin's work stems from his own personal experience through life. Much of his work plays with ideas of gender expression, sexuality, and the questioning of cultural norms through modern society. 
Colin is currently freelancing in the Chicago area.
